Sound-absorbing panels Plettro™

Plettro™ panel is inspired to the well-known musical accessory used by guitarists, but this geometric shape does not come exclusively from a design choice, and the reference to the musical world is only one of the suggestions. The idea of this new product actually comes from this particular shape analysis and its potential acoustic performances, in addition to its notable aesthetic features and suitability for the integration in various architectural contexts.
Triangolo-di-Reuleaux Plettro™ shape is well known with the technical name of "Reuleaux Triangle", and it consists of three curves based on the equilateral triangle, with all the perimetral points at the same distance from the triangle centre. It's thus a geometry extremely interesting from the acoustic point of view, because the panel surface can give an acoustic regular response to the incident sound wave, as in the circular form happens.

CONCEPT AND TECHNOLOGY

Up to now, the technical realization of sound-absorbing elements for suspended ceilings, based on complex shapes, has been reserved to marginal and expensive handcraft installations, because any serial production requires the development of articulated industrial processes.
During the preliminary design phase, we considered the possibility to adopt the thermoforming production technique, the most diffused method in the worlds of furniture and interior design. At the same time, the need to develop an operative tool for acoustic correction suitable for professional audio music contexts, led us to evaluate alternative solutions to grant sound absorption performances on a wider range of sound frequencies.
The acoustic installations with elements suspended to the ceiling require extremely stable panels, that don't bend over time. For this reason, we decided to use a perimetral thermoplastic polymer frame made as a valid alternative to the common wooden frames.
The other components of Plettro™ are made of fireproof plastic polymers, as well. The sound absorbing core is realized with a medium density polyester characterized by high-density surface smoothing that works as a "vibrating membrane".
The covering of the panels is realized with a Trevira coloured fabric made of polyester fiber, completely transparent to sound waves. There's a big variety of colours, and our Trevira fabric has a number of fireproof, anti-UV, tear-resistance and Oeko-Tex - Class 1 certifications. Panels are also available with removable fabric covering, if requested.

INSTALLATION CONTEXTS

Plettro™ is suitable especially for prestigious historic buildings, thanks to its shape (comparable to a triangle), and can be placed in the typical horizontal position, but also adherent to complex vaulted ceilings (barrel, ribbed, cross or pavilion).
The modern and curious drawing of these absorbers lets Plettro™ be suitable even for actual architectural contexts, such as big open workspaces, showrooms, museums and exhibition places.
Plettro™ maintenance is very easy because of its plastic materials composition. This aspect is fundamental for acoustic installations in restaurants, pizzerias, bars and similar spaces, where cleanliness is required.
Plettro™ is a professional tool for noise and reverb control also for the more complex installations in audio music spaces such as auditoriums, theatres, concert and multifunctional halls.
