GRAFICA™ - Sound-absorbing art panels
In recent years, noise reduction and reverb control have become popular topics, not only for specialistic acoustic interventions in audio and music field, but in any architectural and design project as well.
The attention to the acoustic comfort, a fundamental element in auditorium or theatre projects, has been extended to any space of our everyday use, such as working spaces, schools, restaurants and collective spaces. According to this, Acustico® constantly develops and designs new products to offer acoustic solutions for any aesthetic and technical need.
The growing use of sound-absorbing panels for acoustic wellness management in indoor environments brings with it the demand for new technical solutions that do not only respond to the functional purposes of sound management, but that can become an active part of the design scenario, expressing their own autonomous aesthetic value, but at the same time coherent and integrated with the rest of the furnishings.
Among the various acoustic solutions capable of bringing added value in terms of design, sound-absorbing panels with printed graphics deserve a place of honor, thanks to their essential quality of not generating heavy visual impacts, being totally mimetic and substantially indistinguishable from a common painting with images.
In their dual functionality as acoustic absorbers for reverberation control and as decorative furniture complements, acoustic sound-absorbing panels can represent the optimal solution for elegant interior design interventions, with wide possibilities for customization in shapes and graphic solutions.
The acoustic technology
GRAFICA™ sound absorbing panels can be provided in two different types:
Ecoplan™, realized without fabric covering, with images directly printed on the polyester surfaces;
Decho® and Aural® (one side fabric covering), Decho® Baffles (double-side fabric covering), with images printed on the fabric covering.
All these products are made with PET polyester fiber produced with specific technologies, in order to improve the sound absorption performances of the material in a wide range of sound frequencies.
Printed images
Images, pictures and graphs can be provided by the customers or selected from online catalogues with millions of HD images organized by items (landscapes, celebrities, texture, abstract drawings, etc).
In order to obtain a good aesthetic result, we require proper resolution images (at least 100 DPI) suitable for the panel format. If you are not a graphic expert, Acustico®'s graphic office will be at your disposal for laying out your images or carrying out highly professional photo editing.
Technical details about GRAFICA™ acoustic frameworks by ACUSTICO®
Decho® and Aural® acoustic frameworks are realized with a perimetral plastic or aluminum frame and covered with a fabric printed before the assembly of the panel.
During the image processing, our graphic designers lay out the provided pictures according to the panel format. After that, the image is copied and mirrored along the borders, in order to extend the printing to the edge of the panel.
This simple method lets us print panels on the front side and edges as well, obtaining a visual continuity on the perimeter.
For Ecoplan™ panels, images can be printed only on the front side except for the edges, that remain in white color.

The printing process – The importance of details
The printing process of HD images on textile supports is technically complex, because of the material porous nature. This technical complication is not the only one in the production of GRAFICA™ sound-absorbing frameworks: in order to guarantee high sound-absorbing performances of the panels, the printed fabric covering has to preserve its own sound-transparency feature and flexibility as well.
For these reasons it's not possible to use traditional inks and printing equipment. In 2019 Acustico® acquired a new advanced digital printing system, used by big fashion companies so far and specifically developed to print images on fabrics and leathers.
The printing is realized using ultraviolet fireproof inks, rapidly fixed with low temperatures on the support. This process does not modify the physical structure of the fabric and makes the printing pigments extremely stable, even if rubbed.

Installation
GRAFICA™ panels are mostly wall installed, but it has recently been growing the number of ceiling installations as well.
In both cases, the installation is very easy to do: every supply includes the mounting kit to hang panels, and an installation guide that describes the assembly step by step.
The wall installation can be realized with simple hanging brackets (standard version) or with anti-removal systems (usually required for installations in public or school environments). For ceiling installations, a cable (nylon or steel) mounting system is usually supplied.
